Glo & Ray are a British brand who made their debut in 2012 so they’re still quite a young brand. Although relatively young their products have been so well received and seem to have quite a following. I tried a couple of products from them last year which I still use now but I was excited to try out a few more products from their range.

All three of the products I have been trying have that Glo & Ray sleek, sophisticated matte black packaging. They look & feel expensive and really good quality. They’re durable and well made so you’re not frightened or hesitant to throw these products into your makeup bag & take with you on the go, which is always a plus.

I have been trying out 3 products from them and 2 out of the 3 have bowled me over.

Twilight Nude Eyeshadow Quad

Twilight Nude Eyeshadow Quad

Glo & Ray Mariposa Quartet Eye Shadow in Twilight Nude*

This I really really wanted to love because all the colours are right up my street, you know I love a neutral eyeshadow but unfortunately I found the colours looked beautiful in the pan but the colours just didn’t translate well on to my eye. The pigmentation just wasn’t there. I have tried another quad from Glo & Ray and that was the Golden Dunes quad and I would totally recommend that one. I just found all four colours in this quad to be a little chalky and underwhelming. Maybe I got a duff palette but I just couldn’t get these to look pigmented at all, as you would expect the darker two shades were easier to work with but they were still not great.

Glo & Ray Blusher

Glo & Ray Makeup Collection

Glo & Ray Nuage Solo Blush in Luna Maroon*

These Glo & Ray solo blushers are so beautiful this is my second one and its equally as pretty and pigmented as Star Dust. This Luna Maroon (love that name) is a stunning peachy pink with an almost gold luminous finish. It gives you a pretty flush of colour and also when the gold catches the light and makes your skin look radiant. Its a blush and highlight all in one product which I like.

Its a really pretty affordable blush, not chalky or hard to blend, its pigmented and long wearing too. You get a good sized mirror in this too so that is always handy. As I said these blushers are just fab and I get a lot of wear from them.

Glo & Ray Makeup Swatches

Glo & Ray CC Foundation*

This is by far the best Glo & Ray product I’ve tried to date, its my ideal base. I do love a lightweight foundation that will also cover my imperfections leaves my skin looking luminous and healthy. Its not shimmery or greasy but it makes your skin look even toned and glowing. It also blurs pores and fine lines which is just what I need from my base. This glides on my skin and although the product feels lightweight it gives quite a good medium coverage and it lasts all day (I do powder through my T zone). Its only available in 3 shades and I have the shade 10 which is the lightest shade and this was a little light for me during the Summer but now it is the perfect match & I think it is a great Autumn / Winter Base.

If you’re looking for a new foundation I highly recommend checking this one out.

Glo & Ray are a new discovery for me, it is a British made brand (which I like) and they made their debut in 2012 so they’re still quite a young brand. Although relatively young their products have been so well received and have quite a following so I was excited to try out a few products from their range.

All three of the products I have been trying have the sleekest, sophisticated black packaging. They look & feel expensive and really good quality. You’re not frightened or hesitant to throw these products into your makeup bag & take with you on the go. I have had the lippie in my handbag for weeks & the cap never comes off & the packaging is holding up very well indeed.

Glo & Ray Mariposa Golden Dunes Quartet Eyeshadow*  £12.50

These shadows look gorgeous in the pan and they scream Summer bronzed makeup to me. I love that sun-kissed beach look in the warmer months & this is the quad for achieving that look. The shadows are soft and easy to apply, the lightest cream shade is a little harder to work with and not very pigmented but it still gives you enough colour and brightens up the lid. The metallic grey shade is also quite light that doesn’t let this palette down as the gold & bronze shades are utterly gorgeous and are beautiful worn alone or as a more intense smokey eye.

I have been wearing the bronze shade on its own quite a lot with a touch of the lightest cream just in the inner corner. All the colours are long wearing and I found you can build them up without them looking powdery or getting fall out under the eye.  Packaging as I said is lovely and sleek, and there is a good sized mirror inside which is so handy.

Glo & Ray MakeupGlo & Ray Lipstick in Freeze

Glo & Ray La Amo Creamy Matte Lip Colour in Freeze* £12.00

This is a very pigmented matte nude lipstick. If you’re into the Kylie Jenner lip look which is popular at the moment then you will love this colour. It has a slight rosy tint to it which really warms up my face. Although it is matte it doesn’t feel drying, it has a slight sheen to it when you first apply it.

Lipsticks never wear very long on me but this lip colour did a great job of staying put & even after drinking a few cups of tea I had a good even coverage still on my lips. This wouldn’t have been a colour I would have picked for myself but I have to say I am converted to a nude lip now.  The packaging has a magnetic closure which is a nice touch and the sleek black packaging with simple white lettering looks grown up and expensive.

Glo & Ray Golden Dunes Eyeshadow QuadGlo & Ray Blush in Stardust

Glo & Ray Nuage Solo Blush in Star Dust£11.00

Well, I wasn’t expecting this to be as stunning as it is. It is a beautiful peachy pink with an iridescent finish. This will be my Spring / Summer blush of choice as it adds a fresh bright colour to the cheek which lifts your whole face and makes you look healthy and glowing.

The updated formula of our Nuage blush contains Refractive Crystals for a multi-dimensional look.

I think it is quite a good dupe for NARS Deep Throat Blush, although I think the Glo & Ray one is prettier. It is so buttery and pigmented, there is no shimmer in it so don’t worry about looking like a disco ball. This has been a gorgeous addition to my makeup bag & I want to try more of these solo blushes as they come in a pretty range of colours.

Glo & Ray Stardust Blush

L-R Star Dust Blush / Freeze Matte Lip Colour / Golden Dunes Quartet Eyeshadow

I think this is a brand to keep your eye on in 2015. I have seen quite a few reviews of their Balloon Pop Eyeliner Set & they look beautiful and pigmented. Let me know if you have tried anything from this brand and if you have any recommendations for products I should try.

Top Essence Makeup Picks

I have been working my way through the very generous goodie bag I received at the Essence Makeup Launch last month. There have been so many gems & a couple of misses too but I thought I would share with you 8 of my top picks. If you didn’t already know Essence is a very affordable German makeup brand that’s very popular not only in Europe but also worldwide and they have launched in all branches of Wilkinsons in the UK & also online. So we are all able to get our hands on them, very exciting.

German Brand Essence

Quick & Easy Sponge Nail Polish Remover £3.00

A lazy girls best friend, quite a few brands are doing these now just a big sponge soaked in nail polish but they’re so handy for quick nail polish removal & this Essence one is budget friendly & works a treat. It is also acetone free

Essence Kabuki Brush £4.00

Black & Pink …. how cute right! This is comparable to my elf Kabuki Brush which I have used almost daily since buying it 2 years ago. This Essence one has been taking its place, I apply my bronzer or face powder with this & its does a very good job. No shedding and the bristles are soft. I have washed it a couple of times and it comes up clean & goes back into shape.

Essence Colour To Go  Nail Polish in 128 Lets Get Lost £1.60

I love this colour & this is the shade I picked at the event (as they had lovely ladies doing nails). Its a stunning vibrant summery blue, this lasted so well on my nails I wore it for a full week with minimal chipping. I now have this colour on my toes and my love for it is only growing. I have to say that if there was one thing Essence does very very well its all things nail related. They have a huge selection of polishes, decals and everything you could want for nail art. I have used a few polishes and I haven’t found a dud yet.

Essence Studio Nails Better Than Gel Nails Top Coat £2.50

OMG! This is my new favourite top coat, it has replaced my Orly and I can’t see me picking up anything else. This applies very glossy and dries in a couple of minutes to a very hard but ever so shiny finish. I have applied this over every manicure since I came home with it & its helping my manicure stay in place and looking fresh for a week at a time. It really is living up to its name.

Eyeshadow Quad

Essence Makeup

Essence Neutral Quad

Essence Quad in 05 To Die For £3.00

This is a good neutral quad, the two darker colours are a lot more pigmented but if you wear a primer and take a little more time over applying the lighter 2 shades you can get them to work. This a great quad for achieving a brown smoky eye. The two light shades have a slight shimmer to them & so to does the more copper toned brown, then you also get a fantastic dark brown matte colour. The lighter colours give a little fallout but nothing that can’t be cleaned up when you have finished, all the colours are easy to apply and to blend. I’ve really been enjoying using this quad & want to try a few more colour options.

Blush My Lips

Blush My Lips 12

Essence Long Lasting Lipstick in Blush My Lips 12 £2.30

This has to be my favourite product from the whole goodie bag. Its a bright pink creamy lipstick. It goes on the lips so smoothly and the colour is vibrant and beautiful. This is long wearing & thats on me (I’m terrible for lippies wearing off so fast & going patchy) but this one is great. The packaging feels more expensive than it is & the lipstick doesn’t have that cheap scent that many budget friendly ones have. Its a big hit with me & I have a few other shades that are also just as good but this pink stood out for me, it pretty & the perfect Summer shade.

Essence Big Bright Eyes in highlight it ….. pearly £2.00

This is a cream coloured pencil which is fantastic under the brow bone or in the inner corner of your eye to brighten & highlight that area. This has a lovely creamy texture and a pretty iridescent finish so it catches the light. A staple in your makeup bag, especially if you like your eyes to look fresh & bright.

Essence Eyebrow Tweezers £2.00

Not as exciting as the pink lip stick but never the less still a vital part of my beauty regime. A good pair of tweezers is a must & these look cute and get the job done. Enough said ….. tweezers that work & look cute

I received these Essence products at a recent event. I’m under no obligation to review them on my blog. However if I do, the reviews are 100% my own.
