Best Lipsticks For Spring

Spring 2017 Lipstick Favourites

Spring 2017 Lipstick Favourites

Winter seemed to last forever and I am so happy to see the nice weather returning. Spring always gives me a push to have a clear out and my makeup stash is always in need of a cull. Whilst I was in the process of having a right good sort out I took the opportunity to switch up the products in my everyday makeup drawers and I am sharing with you the lipsticks I want to wear this Spring. Now that I have them all lined up I can see that I haven’t really pushed any boundaries and that pink is for sure featuring quite heavily.

bareMinerals Pop of Passion in Blushing Passion

I adore this because it gives the lips a very light wash of colour & is very much a tinted lipbalm so it is perfect option for popping on so you look somewhat put together. It has a nice creamy texture which feels comfortable and hydrating on the lips and the colour is nice and neutral. These are available in 8 shades and would be a nice Spring addition to your makeup bag.

Rimmel The Only 1 Matte in Salute*

I don’t own too many matte lip products but the Rimmel The Only Matte Lipsticks are incredible. I have popped this pretty nude pink shade into my makeup bag and I have been wearing a lot already, it does feel dry on the lips but in no way uncomfortable. The staying power is damn good and the colour is gorgeous and freshens up any Spring look.

Armani Lip Magnet in 505 Second Skin*

Now I have spoken about the Armani Lip Magnets on many an occasion because they’re simply fantastic. They apply with ease and feel incredibly comfortable on the lips, the weightless formulation which is a combination of water, oils and pigments means that it fuses to your lips giving you that high concentrated colour. The water gradually evaporates allowing the oils to deliver a rich, intense colour that is also 4 times thinner than a liquid lip colour. I like this shade because it is a very pretty nude pink, its so easy to wear and looks fresh on the lips. The Lip Magnets come in a range of 18 shades from wearable reds and pinks to more vampy plums.  Switch Up Your Lipstick For-Spring

Clinique Chubby Stick Super Strawberry

Lip crayons are just so effortless to apply and so many brands have released them over the past few years but there is just something about the Clinique Chubby Sticks that I absolutely love. The Chubby Sticks come in 16 tint shades & 8 intense shades they’re all wearable I’ve been using the Super Strawberry shade these past few weeks, it is a sheer rosy pink shade. It has a glossy sheen finish and because it is also a lip treatment and is loaded with mango, shea butters and vitamin E, your lips feel nourished and protected. These are fab to have in your handbag / makeup bag, let me know what shades you wear.

Urban Decay in Backtalk

This is one of my all time favourite lipsticks because It it the perfect nude and it works as a daytime lip option if you’re going for minimal makeup or as an evening option to compliment a more intense look. This formula is the Comfort Matte and I would say it has a soft creamy, matte finish and doesn’t dry out my lips at all. Backtalk is a mauvy, nude shade and like I said is a gorgeous everyday colour, if I use a lipliner underneath It wears for hours without going patchy or gathering in my lip creases. If there is one lipstick you buy from the Urban Decay Vice Lipstick Collection it has to be this one I guarantee you’ll wear it all the time.

Spring Lipstick Favourites

L-R bareMinerals Pop of Passion in Blushing Passion / Rimmel Matte in Salute / Armani Lip Magnet in 505 / Clinique Chubby Stick Super Strawberry / Urban Decay in Backtalk / Essence in 12 Blush My Lips

Essence in 12 Blush My Lips

How vibrant and pretty is this pink shade from Essence it screams Spring. I tend to shy away from bright colours but this just brightens up my makeup and does some sort of magic which compliments my skintone perfectly. I have said it so many time but Essence Makeup is one of the beauty industry’s best kept secrets I am starting to see more people talking about them, especially now that their range is sold in Wilko Stores. If you haven’t tried them you really need too they have a fantastic range of affordable but fantastic quality makeup and I can’t say enough good things about them.

Before you get too excited I don’t think this Whole Lotta Chubby Set* is still available but I had to tell you about them because I have fallen for the Clinique Chubby offerings in a big way. First Clinique released their Chubby Lip Balms and they proved to be popular so soon after came the Shadow Tints for Eyes and Clinique recently added to the Chubby Family and released the Cheek Colour Balms. All of which I really like!

Clinique Whole Lotta Chubby Set

Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm in Curvy Candy

This gives the lips a sheer wash of colour, a little more than the Baby Tint but still not too pigmented. Curvy Candy is a soft pink shade and it looks natural and fresh on the lips. These lighter shades are so easy to apply and you get a nice hint of colour and the balm keeps your lips hydrated and feeling soft. The Chubby Stick Lip Colour Balms are available in 17 beautiful shades.

Chubby Stick Baby Tint Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm in Poppin Poppy

A bit of colour, a hefty helping of moisture. These sheers bloom on contact to bring out your lips’ natural tone. The colour is different for everyone.

This is a sheer lip balm that will look great on everyone. Poppin Poppy a subtle but pretty peachy pink tint to the lips and it feels very moisturising too. It gives your lips a glossy healthy look and is perfect for everyday wear. These Baby Tints are available in two shades.

Chubby Stick Intense Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm in Mightiest Maraschino

The Intense Chubby Sticks are as the name suggests alot more pigmented and bold on the lips. Mightiest Maraschino is a beautiful red toned pink with a lovely glossy finish. It lasts a good amount of time on the lips and after a little of the glossiness has worn off the colour becomes more of a stain. This pinky red colour is fresh and pretty on the lips and you can build it up to be quite intense. The Chubby Stick Intense Lip Balms are available in 8 shades.

All the Chubby Stick Lip Balms are loaded with mango and shea butters so not only do they give your lips a pop of colour but they’re also very nourishing. I love the packaging and do like to the ease of using a lip crayon, they’re twist up and never need sharpening so easy to throw in your makeup bag and re apply on the go.

Clinique Chubby Stick Swatches

Amp’d Up Apple / Bountiful Beige / Curvy Candy / Poppin Poppy / Mightiest Maraschino

I had only ever tried the Chubby Sticks for lips & so was excited to finally get to test out the Shadow Tint & Cheek Colour options. They come in much the same packaging & are cream products just like the lip balms. I found them easy to apply and was impressed with their staying power, especially the Cheek Colour Balm.

Chubby Stick Shadow Tint for Eyes in Bountiful Beige

This Shadow Tint is creamy and applied smoothly to my eyelid, no dragging or patchy colour. After about a minute it dries to more of a powder finish but you still get a gorgeous almost metallic finish. The shade I have is called Bountiful Beige but I would say it is more of a shimmering champagne than a beige. Its a gorgeous shade and it really brightens up my eyes and wears for hours without creasing. I found this effortless to apply, long wearing and I loved the pretty champagne colour, these also contain vitamin E for soothing and smoothing the delicate eye area, so your eyes are getting a little tlc whilst looking pretty too. The Shadow Tints come in 14 beautiful shades.

Chubby Stick Cheek Colour Balm in

If you like to wear cream blushes then I think you will love this Clinique offering. The fact that it comes in a Chubby Stick makes it easy to apply, I dab it on to my cheek and blend it out with my fingers. Its as easy as that! Its not greasy & the formula is oil free so its not going to slip & slid all over your face. I have the shade Amp’d Up Apple and it is such a pretty natural rose colour, its the perfect everyday blush. It gives my cheeks a warm flush of colour and is an easy colour to reach for on days I am wearing a minimal makeup look. I love the texture and finish of this cheek balm and as I said it wears well and the colour looks pretty and natural. The Cheek Colour Balms come in 4 easy to wear shades, I hope they add a few more colours to the range in 2016.

Travel Makeup Bag Scotland Edit

Scotland Makeup Edit

I have just returned from visiting family in Scotland & I was there for almost 3 weeks. I thought i’d share with you the makeup I took with me. First off I love this makeup bag, it was a limited edition release from Origins last year & they teamed up with fashion designer Nanette Lepore. It is a beautiful design and it fits quite a good amount of products in. I do have my brushes packed separately so this just had my makeup in.

My Scotland Makeup Bag

I took my B. Prepared Illuminating Makeup Primer* this leaves my skin feeling silky smooth and doesn’t add any slip or shine to the skin but instead it adds a beautiful luminous glow to the skin without any shimmer or glitter. It is a really nice smooth base for my foundation to sit on top of & it helps my makeup last all day whilst adding a healthy glow to my skin. It also has Hyaluronic acid and vitamin E which are great at hydrating skin and helping reduce the signs of fatigue.

Talking about foundations I took 4 bases with me, sounds excessive but 2 are sample sizes & the other two are totally different options. The one I used most frequently was the Bourjois CC Cream* it gives my skin a light, natural coverage whilst counteracting redness and evening out your skin tone. I found it so easy to blend and wears really well throughout the day. I love this & I’m so pleased with it. If you’re looking for a Summer base this might be the one.

Maybelline Dream Flawless Nude Foundation* – This was bought on a whim a couple of weeks ago & I have been blown away by it. It gives more coverage than the Bourjois CC Cream but it still isn’t heavy in the skin and I would say it gives a medium coverage. Its a very watery formula which I think is very easy to blend and it gives the skin a gorgeous satin finish, it makes my skin look incredible & I don’t need to powder unless I want it to last all day & into the night which isn’t often.

Scotland Makeup Edit

I took the Ginvera Green Tea BB Cream too and I like that its a light coverage and provides a natural touch of colour so my complexion looks bright & even. It has a lovely creamy consistency which I found very easy to blend, I did lightly powder but I don’t think thats 100% necessary. This BB Cream covers all bases it provides a SPF30, protects against free radicals, conceals imperfections & contains hyluronic acid for all day hydration. So you’re getting a lovely BB Cream with the added skincare benefits which Asian brands are renowned for.

I always take my MUA Undress Me Too Palette as its so slim & has 12 eyeshadows in, so lots of neutral options. I like that its affordable so I’m not worried about it getting damaged in transit & I think all the shadows are great quality and are perfect for wearing during the day.You get 2 mattes and a mix of metallic finishes and shimmers, so quite a varied selection for a £4 palette. I also took the Collection Eyes Uncovered Palette in Nude Bronze which is a more recent purchase & the shadows in this palette wear slightly longer & I love how pigmented and pretty they are. If you love gold, bronzy shimmers then this is the one. Again it’s such an affordable palette & I highly recommend checking it out. There are a few in this range & this one has more metallic, shimmery options. So perfect for the evening.

I took two cream eyeshadows & they were the Bourjois Colorband Eye Crayon in Brun dadaiste & Laura Mercier Caviar Stick in Sugar Frost these are my go to eye option for a lazy makeup day. they look pretty on the lids & they last all day. I also just blend them out using my finger, its so quick and easy.

Travel Makeup Bag

I am so in love with the Soap & Glory Supercat Liner that I had to pack it, its amazing at getting that perfect, precise liner that you can make look more dramatic if you want to. Wonderful deep black pigmentation and no smudging throughout the day. Try it if you like liquid liner, you will not be disappointed.

My Benefit Boiing Concealer is always in my makeup bag, I have repurchased it so many times because it just works. It covers everything and anything & it never looks cakey. Its quite creamy and you can blend so easily but once its on it stays in place for hours. Its heavy duty and a concealer that you can rely on. I also took my Bobbi Brown Corrector because I am trying to shop my stash & I hadn’t used this for a while & I knew that Scotland would be a lot of early mornings & late nights so this was going to be my product to counteract the dark under eyes.

Soap & Glory Solar Powder – This is my favourite bronzing duo, its very handy for travel having 2 shades. I think this bronzer gives me a sun kissed glow & a touch of natural colour. I must have used it everyday since I bought it. I do hate the flimsy cardboard packaging & the lid / mirror is about to rip off any day which is such a shame. Next up is Elf Pinktastic which is a baked highlighting blush with pink and beige marbling, it really brightens up your cheeks and leaves them looking flushed and glowing. The shimmer isn’t too OTT but looks fresh and is a beautiful highlight.

I took two blushers with me the first is the Max Factor Creme Puff in Gorgeous Berries* which is just beautiful, and it adds such a pretty warm rosy glow to your cheeks. The last blush I took is the Essence Silky Touch Blush in Babydoll which it is a soft pink and I think quite a natural colour so it gives your cheeks a very subtle fresh healthy look.

Travel Makeup Scotland Edit

Soap & Glory One Heck of a Blot is a wonderful setting powder if you have an oily t zone, its keeps my foundation in place and from looking shinny after a couple of hours. I have hit pan on this too. I also took my Mac Select Sheer Pressed Powder NW25 this powder gives my skin a little more coverage & sets my makeup. I use it at night because of the extra coverage it gives, it makes my foundation look flawless and stops my skin getting oily. I have had it for ages & I’ve almost used it up. I always forget I have it but love it when I rediscover it, its just a great all round powder.

I only took two lip options and they were both lip crayons. The Origins KissZing Lip Crayon in Rosemance* this has to be my favourite everyday lip colour. Rosemance is a soft nude rose shade, it gives your lips a pinch of colour & looks natural and pretty. The formula is quite creamy and glides on effortlessly, feels hydrating on the lips but not greasy at all. I have it in my handbag ALL the time. I also took the Lord & Berry Twistick in Shut Up* which a deep plum shade & is my go to evening lip colour.

So thats what I took with me for 17 days in Scotland, do you think I packed light?

Origins KissZing Lip Crayons

Origins KissZing Selection

Origins KissZing

These KissZing Lip Crayons from Origins are a relatively new release & only hit counters in mid-February. So just in time for Spring. They come in 6 wearable colours.

Origins KissZing Selection

I have been using the shade Rosemance which is a soft nude rose shade. It gives your lips a pinch of colour & looks natural and pretty. The formula is quite creamy and glides on effortlessly, feels hydrating on the lips but not greasy at all. There is a glossy finish to this lip crayon and I think these make the perfect everyday lip product. They give your lips a pretty wash of colour, have a nice glossy finish & have lots of skincare benefits too – so they look after your lips as well as making them look pretty. That’s a win-win situation.

Origins KissZing Rosemance

All the Origins KissZing Lip Crayons have these lovely ingredients to help keep your lips smooth, hydrated & looking their best.

Meadowfoam Seed – Which has anti-oxidant properties & helps keep skin soft and nourished.

Jojoba Oils – Which helps soothe dry irritated skin and is very gentle.

Mango Seed Butter Which is rich in antioxidants, vitamin A and E.

Shea Butter – Which is very popular in skincare as it is a very effective moisturiser. So it prevents moisture loss and leaves skin soft.

Origins say these crayons have a scent of mint & vanilla, I do smell a hint of mint but it is so subtle.

I really like the shade I have & think Rosemance is not only a lovely name but a really pretty shade too. It’s subtle & the kind of colour you could wear anywhere & anytime. I think these KissZing Lip Crayons will be perfect for Spring because they’re hydrating and give your lips a gorgeous effortless wash of colour.

Let me know which of the six shades you think would suit you best. I have my eye on Peach Peck.

I did include Rosemance in my Lip Crayon Collection post last month if you’d like to take a look.
