Favourite Makeup of 2014

Favourite Makeup of 2014

I have been really strict with my 2014 makeup favourites & only included the cream of the crop in this post. So without further ado these are my favourite makeup products from 2014.

Clinique Chubby Stick Intense in Roundest Raspberry* – this is an intense raspberry shade which for a lip crayon has great staying power. Its quite glossy but not slippery on the lips and looks beautiful and bright. Its a shade I wear all year round and love how easy it is to apply this on the go. I need to try a few more Chubby Sticks this year.

Rimmel Apocalips in Galaxy – which again is a deep berry shade. I have 3 of these but this colour is by far my favourite, it glides on the lips and is vibrant and feels nice and hydrating. The other colours I have are a little patchy but this gives a nice even colour. You do need to wipe off the excess product before you apply this as a little goes a long way and can get quite messy.

Clarins Instant Light Complexion Base – I like to wear this either under my foundation to perk my skin up or I mix it in with my foundation for an extra reflective boost. This gives me a healthy glow without being shimmery, it evens out my skin tone and hides imperfections. I have the shade Champagne 02 & its also good at dulling the redness in my skin. I find it to be lightweight & doesn’t feel greasy on the skin at all, it just gives you a lovely fresh healthy finish. It makes a really nice base to apply your foundation & just keeps your complexion looking fresh & bright.

Barbara Daly Long Wear Eyeshadows in Shell –  This is a light pink cream shadow with a gorgeous champagne tone which is pretty worn all over the lid or as an inner corner highlight. This colour really adds brightness to the eye & opens it up. This long wear shadow stick is incredible quality and the packaging is sleek and looks a lot more expensive than £3. They do start to crease a little on me after about 5 hours of wear but I do have quite crinkly eyelids & I just blend it out with my finger & that does the trick.

2014 Makeup Favourites

L’Oreal True Match Foundation in the shade Vanilla – this is the first ever L’Oreal Foundation I’ve tried, this is a light to medium coverage, you can still see all my (hundreds) of freckles which I like. It looks natural and wears really well. It doesn’t oxidise on me and my oily skin seems to only start looking shiny after about 6 hours wear & then I lightly dust some powder on and its good for a few more hours.

Benefit Stay Don’t Stray – This is a dual action eye primer so not only will it keep your eyeshadow in place but you can use it under the eye to keep your concealer put all day long and it works a treat! It gives my eyelids an even colour & is the perfect base on which to apply eyeshadow. Its love & I am going to use some vouchers I got for Christmas to get the full size.

Soap & Glory Solar Powder – This has been my daily bronzer since I bought it back in May. In the pan it doesn’t look like much but once on the skin its just beautiful. The lighter shade has a little sheen to it whilst the slightly darker brown is matte. I tend to mix the two shades together to give a subtle sun kissed effect. I sweep it over the top of my forehead & down on to my cheeks. This isn’t going to give you a deep colour its more for paler skin tones. It just adds such a natural warm glow to the skin and makes me look healthy. The only downside to this is the cardboard packaging it looks tatty after a while and it’s not very travel friendly.

Miss Sporty Cat’s Eyes Palette – Mineral Earth. This has been a handy quad for my many trips up to Scotland. You get four good quality shadows and they’re ideal for achieving neutral smoky eye, or most of the four colours can worn alone all over the lid which Is how I wear them mostly. All 4 colours have a slight frosting to them, nothing sparkly or overly shimmery but they do have a pretty light reflecting quality to them. Its a bargain of a quad & I use it all the time. Like I said its handy and small for travel, its not the most robust packaging but its still going strong after a lot of use.

Sharon Osbourne Duchess Eyeshadow Quad – All four shades are pigmented and very blendable, I think they work well together & unlike a lot of palettes / quads there really isn’t one dud shade, they’re all beautiful. Three of the four have a pretty shimmer frosted finish, I wouldn’t  say they’re overly frosted or shimmery but just enough to add some iridescence, glow and brightness to your look. This is the only Mac purchase I’ve made for the longest time as I tend not to shop there but I couldn’t be happier with this quad & I have used it so much.

2014 Makeup Favourites

L’Oreal Super Liner Carbon Gloss – This eyeliner lasts so well on me and the colour is such a deep black. I like to use this eyeliner for making a really thin line and the nib is precise and easy to use. It doesn’t transfer at all and once it dries it won’t smudge. It also doesn’t dry out in the tube, I find a lot of liquid liners do & its so annoying. These last me at least 3 months and thats using it daily.

Seventeen Stay Time 18 Hour Concealer – This is great for both under eye area & blemishes. I do powder over the top to ensure it stays put all day. Its a great affordable concealer and I’m thrilled with it. Although not too sure about the 18 hour claims, nothing a quick touch up won’t solve. I like to apply this with my finger and find that gives me the best even coverage.

Origins GinZing Brightening MascaraThis mascara is great at separating your lashes & it keeps a curl like no other! I like my lashes to look fluttery and this works well at achieving that. You can build it up on your lashes so they look thick without being crispy. I also like the chunky packaging & I’ve grown to love the big oversized wand. Its a very good all round mascara & I think its quite an unsung hero.

Let me know if you love any of the products I’ve included or if you have any other recomendations.

Mineral Earth Palette

Miss Sporty Quad

Miss Sporty Quad

You can buy this Miss Sporty Cat’s Eyes Palette Mineral Earth for £3.99 which is just a complete bargain, you get 4 good quality shadows. These are perfect for a gorgeous warm neutral smoky eye, or worn alone all over the lid which I have mostly been doing. All 4 colours have a slight frosting to them, nothing sparkly or overly shimmery but they do have a pretty light reflecting quality to them.

The lightest frosty white shade in the middle works as a wonderful inner corner highlight and can be built up to be quite intense and bright if you wish. Or I like to apply it quite subtle to the inner corner & also under my brow bone. The bottom peachy brown is beautiful and I often wear this on it’s own if I want a quick wash of colour.

The rusty brown shade is very similar to Mac Amber lights and thats one of my all time favourite eyeshadows. It’s quite a good dupe.  The dark brown is quite metallic finish but its a pretty brown with a burgundy undertone. This looks pretty in the crease to give a little definition.

These shadows do have a little fall out so I would say don’t pack too much colour on at once, slowly build it up. These have fantastic pigmentation and they apply nice and smooth for a budget brand also worn over a primer they will last all day/night.

Miss Sporty Swatches

I have been using this quad a lot since purchasing it last November and it is the only palette I have been taking away with me. It is so compact, the packaging is a little cheap but it is the exact same packaging as the Rimmel shadows and in my opinion the Miss Sporty shadows are much better quality. I know this is seen as a brand aimed at teenagers but I recommend having a look at their stand as I have also been using the Liquid Concealer and their So MattePerfect Stay Powder and I like them too. Budget friendly but great quality.

If you have any Miss Sporty recommendations them I’d love to hear them

In My Makeup Bag Feb 2014

Makeup Bag Edit

As a complete makeup addict I like to change up the products I have in my makeup bag on quite a regular basis, I tend to rotate on a weekly basis. If I love something it tends to stick around a little longer. Im sharing with you the products I have been using these past two weeks.

Dr Jartt Water Fuse Beauty Balm – I bought it before Christmas and have been pretty much using it since. I don’t like to wear a full coverage base as I have quite a few freckles and I like them to show through, otherwise I look like I have no features. This BB Cream gives a very fresh & glowing light coverage. It evens out my skin tone & gives coverage enough to hide the redness around my nose. So I get a lovely natural looking base, this water based BB Cream is aimed at people with more Oily Skin (like me). So if you’re looking for a lightweight base which keeps oil at bay then this is for you. I bought this when it was 1/3 off in Boots.

Soap & Glory Solar Powder – I use this to give my face a slight sun kissed look & a hint of colour. It is a bronzing duo & like to swirl my brush to pick up both shade on my brush & sweep it across my cheeks, temples and down my nose. The lighter shade has a hint of shimmer while the darker of the two is matte.

Seventeen Phwoarr PaintI have been using this to conceal blemishes and to cover the redness around my nose. It works well for both & if i remember to powder the coverage lasts a good amount of time without having to touchup. This is quite a heavy duty concealer, I warm it up in between my fingers so it is easy to blend and that seems to do the trick. Its a handy concealer to pop in your handbag and the fact it has a little mirror in is perfect for checking its still in place & for applying lipstick! I have the shade Fair.

Inika Kohl Eyeliner 05 Black Caviar* – This is a lovely intense black eyeliner, it is very creamy and great to blend out for a smokey eye.

Miss Sporty Cat’s Eye Palette in Mineral Earth – This eyeshadow quad is forever in my makeup bag, it is perfect for achieving a pretty neutral eye & the lightest shade makes a pretty inner corner highlight. I urge you to try this, it’s amazing quality and very pretty. Its small and handy for travelling.

Miss Sporty Liquid Concealer – This is another very budget friendly product, like most people I’m on the hunt for a concealer that does everything & more, sadly this isn’t my HG concealer but it is very creamy and hydrating, I have the shade Light & I use it under my eyes to brighten & make it appear that I’ve had 10 hours sleep. It does a pretty good job. I like it more than the Collection one (a lot more) as I find this blends better and is less drying. I have the shade 001 Light.

Makeup Bag

Rimmel Lash Accelerator Endless Mascara – This mascara makes my pathetic eyelashes look both long and thick, its a really long wearing mascara and I get no flaking throughout the day. Word of warning, don’t apply too much as your lashes will end up very crispy & spider like (unless thats your thing).

Wet n Wild Blush – Until I used this I wasn’t sure what shade suited my skin tone best & then I realised it was peach toned pinks. This Wet n Wild blush is called Pearlescent Pink and is subtle but so very pretty. It makes my complexion look alive and fresh. It gives my cheeks just enough colour. I adore it and have worn it almost everyday for a whole month. I’ve heard a few people compare this to NARS Deep Throat & I can see the resemblance.

CarmexThe perfect winter lip balm. I go back to this time & time again.

Maybelline Brow DramaI like how this gives my eyebrows enough colour so they look neat & tidy but not overdone. This is more a day brow product as you aren’t able to get the full brow look using this. It also keeps my brows in place like a brow gel so you get colour & a setting product in one. I use my HD brow palette if I want a more dramatic brow look. I have the shade Medium Brown.

Pink leather pouch is from Zara & is meant to be a clutch bag, but I use it at a makeup bag.

Grid of Skincare & Makeup #4

If you want to see my previous Grid Posts which I try to do every couple of months, they’re here & here

Skincare

This Bodhi Neroli Luce Face Oil is the first product I’ve tried from this brand, it came very highly recommended and so far after 2 weeks use I can say I really like it. It is very hydrating and keeps my skin balanced and it smells of summer. I want to try a few more things from them now!

ESPA Essential Cleansing Mask This is the mask I use on a Sunday night after a busy week, as it helps calm my skin and keeps excess oil at bay. It is a lovely mask and I’m glad I took the plunge and treated myself. I now look forward to relaxing on a Sunday night with it on.

If you’re looking for Organic skincare then U little Beauty* have you covered. Their enriching night cream* has helped brighten my complexion and keep my skin hydrated during these cold months.

The Body Shop Camomile Waterproof Eye & Lip Makeup Remover – This is one of my stand out products of 2013, it removes my eye makeup without needing to rub back and forth and so it is very gentle. It is alcohol free and doesn’t sting at all. I have heard lots of positive things about the rest of this Camomlile range & will be buying a few more things to try.

Grid of Skincare

The Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II is my slice of luxury, I love applying this at night when I need to wake up looking 100% and glowing. It’s my skin saviour. I never want this bottle to end and enjoy every single drop I use.

You know I love the Merumaya Melting Cleansing Balm* & recommend it to almost everyone I meet. If you want to know more I have a full review of it here.

Bath & Body Works Hand Sanitiser in Pink Peony – I wish they’d open a shop in the UK so I could buy every single variety of these. I always have one in my handbag. they smell delicious and are small and so handy to have. Love them.

Grid of Makeup

No7 BB Lip – this is in a soft pink shade, it looks pretty and fresh on my lips. They don’t give much colour but are perfect for those day’s where you don’t want to apply much makeup but want to still look put together.

Korres Wild Rose Lip Butter – this is just utterly gorgeous. It is a pretty deep red / berry colour and the pigmentation is really good. It gives your lips colour & hydration. The perfect combination. I adore this colour.

Miss Sporty Cat Eyes Palette – I’m so pleased with this and have worn it so often over the past month. The colours are rich and apply evenly and pigmented. For the price this is well worth buying. I took this with me for a week in Scotland and used it everyday. This is my makeup find of 2014.
